Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis suggest the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior official stated the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
